What Is Your First Thought?

When you hear the prompt: bean bags?

My first thought is when I was a bit younger and I would hang out with my friends and play bean bags or Hacky Sack. Or of last summer when we would have “bag” tournaments in my backyard after a barbeque. The “bags” were bean bags that you tossed into a hole that was strategically placed quite a few paces away.

But then I really start to think about the term bean bags and I think back to second grade. My teacher had a bean bag reading center which was my favorite part of the room. She had a variety of bean bags surrounded by stuffed animals and books. She had plain bean bags that were a wide range of colors and she had the children’s bean bags that you might find at Serenity Health. It was great fun to sit in that cozy area and read books. If the teacher ever read to us, it took place in the reading center. Almost every student got a bean bag or one that was big enough to share with a friend.

The bean bag reading center was always an area I would want to recreate in my own bedroom or classroom someday, when I dreamed of being a school teacher. In the warm, but cooler days of the fall or spring, I would go up to our attic where we had a bean bag covered in teddy bears playing various sports and settle down with a favorite book that I read over and over again. It was nice to be able to sneak away where no one would think to look for me and read a book on a bean bag. As well as, ponder the memories that always came flooding back.

I wasn’t very good at bean bags, I can put up a good fight in bags, and I simply enjoy the memories and moments of lounging on a bean bag with a book!

Where does your thoughts take you at the mention of bean bags?
