De Stress Your Life as a New Year Goal

Many of us have New Years Resolutions or Goals for 2008!  I have several and for the first week of the New Year I felt like I just couldn’t quite think about the New Year as I was still trying to wind down from the end of the “Old Year”!  I felt like to I needed to start fresh or “de-stress” before I could accomplish something new. 

Stress can really put a stop to goals that we have as we need to learn how to relieve the stress we have before taking on new stress.  I have summarized some great Stress Relief and Relaxation tips below to try before jumping into the stresses of a New Year.

  • Be Realistic - Learn to say no to exta activities or events that may overwhelm you because you already have so much on your plate.
  • Don’t look too far ahead - Focus on one task at a time, little steps are easier than a big leap!
  • Take time for yourself - Otherwise known as “time-outs”.  Read a book, do nothing, try listening to the soothing sounds of a water fountain.
  • Exercise - Yes, I know, we all hate this word but 20 - 30 minutes a day may relieve that extra tension.
  • Lead a Healthy Lifestyle - Good nutrition can make a difference.
  • Communicate - Share thoughts, keep in touch with loved ones.
  • Get a massage - Great way to release the stress of a hectic day!
  • Find ways to relax at work - Another great area where a water fountain can provide this relaxation with the soothing water sounds.
