Repairing & Cleaning Bean Bags | Cleaning Series, Article 1

This is the first post of our Cleaning Series. It is nice to have a few tips on maintaining your purchases and keeping your bean bags or other products in tip-top shape!

Here are a few tips for repairing and cleaning your bean bags and bean bag furniture:

  1. If the outside layer of your bean bag is made out of fabric you can easily remove the cover and wash it in your washing machine with like colors or by itself. Remember that a bean bag can be used by many people and can be in close proximity to one’s nose or bare skin. If you or your family members are allergic to laundry detergent, make sure you use the same products that you wash your clothes with. You can also put a fabric outside layer in the dryer. But again, tread with caution. I know I wouldn’t be able to put it in my dryer, because it may shrink!
  2. Vinyl or leather outsides can easily be washed with a damp cloth or mild soap such as dish soap. One old trick that my mother has taught me was using an old toothbrush for cleaning those tough spots. This is effective when you want to spot clean the exterior of your bag.
  3. To repair a rip or tear you can use a patch kit or liquid repair. Add a little character to your bag by patching your bag with an old piece of denim or material or use the patch kit the manufacturer may provide with the bean bag purchase. Liquid repair would patch the bean bag without leaving behind the added character of a patch.

Remember too, the nice thing about the exteriors of a bean bag or bean bag chair is that they are replaceable. Once a bag has a little wear and tear you can clean, repair or easily replace it without spending a lot of money replacing the whole bean bag!
