Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art focused, most simply, around balancing chi, the energy that is present throughout the world. Balancing chi and focusing it correctly can bring harmony and peace to your being and your surroundings. There are many ways to incorporate feng shui into your life on a daily basis. Colors, arrangements of furniture, fabrics, clocks, and more can all affect the energy balance. Water and water fountains can also be very effective at balancing chi and improving your wellbeing and relaxation.
The water element is one of the five elements in feng shui. Water, by itself, can help strengthen relationships between people and encourage prosperity. It’s an important, life-giving element. Water elements in your home could be anything that represents water, a reflective surface, or a pond or water fountain. Water features can also fill in imbalances in the construction of a room, helping it to achieve the optimal ‘square’ shape for the balance of chi.
Water fountains help to refresh and circulate the chi. They also provide pleasing sounds, helping you to relax. When choosing a water fountain with feng shui in mind, focus less on finding a perfect match to your décor than finding a fountain that will balance the energy. For example, if you may wish to balance warm and cool colors or materials. A slate fountain can provide an excellent balance to a bathroom with many ceramic elements to it. Or you can choose one that complements your décor completely. Whatever you pick, good feng shui fountains are naturally beautiful.
Water fountains in your garden or outside your home or office also balance the energy of your surroundings. To add some additional elements to an outdoor fountain, consider placing some rocks in the water, giving an extra bit of ‘earth’ to the water fountain. Curved and wavy lines in outdoor fountains and other garden decorating can balance out the straight lines of a home or other building. Place the fountain so that the water flows towards the house.
The placement of the fountain, whether indoors or outside, is important. Placing one inside to the left of your main door can help ward off negative energy coming from outside your room and bring good luck. (Be careful not to place water elements on both sides of the door! This may have unintended, negative consequences.) Water fountains should also face into the room, to prevent good energy from flowing out. The North, East, and Southeast portions of the room are excellent positions for water elements. With proper positioning, you can also achieve certain goals with the addition of a water fountain or water fall. For example, a water fall placed in an office or library can increase knowledge, in addition to removing negative ions and refreshing the chi in the room.
Water fountains are excellent ways to incorporate feng shui into your life. Feng shui is for everyone, so don’t worry about budgets. Think of ways that you can make positive improvements to your energies and wellbeing. Read more on feng shui fountains or tips about water fountains and feng shui.
