Removing White Scale from Water Fountains

White scale and mineral deposits can form on water fountains from hard water.  Once you get white scale build up on your fountains it can be difficult to remove.  The best solution is to prevent it by using distilled water or to use a fountain care product such as No More White Scale.  If you already have white scale or other mineral deposits on your indoor or outdoor water fountains you can try the following steps to remove it:

CLR - Calcium Lime Remover - This is something you will find at a home improvement store or a discount store such as Wal-Mart or Target.  It is a general kitchen/bathroom cleaner used for removing mineral deposits.  Be sure you use a soft, non-abrasive sponge to scrub your fountain.  We also a fountain cleaning kit that works great and contains a non-abrasive sponge and a small bottle of lime remover.

Vinegar and water may help get rid of some of the deposits as well, you will want to leave this sit on your fountain for awhile to let it work and break down the deposits and then scrub with a non-abrasive sponge.

For detailed cleaning instructions for your water fountains we offer several tips in the Water Fountain Cleaning Guide as well as in the Water Fountain FAQ’s.
