Maintaining an Indoor Fountain is mostly a matter of common sense, but it may be intimidating for first time owners. In fact, care and maintenance is easy when you own a properly installed, high quality indoor fountain. Here are five simple tips to help get you started.
Follow the Instructions
This is probably the most common sense tip of all. Before you install your indoor fountain or perform any maintenance make sure to read the instructions that came with it! This is particularly important if you’re installing a Wall Water Fountain, as it will lay out the correct procedure, saving you future headaches. The included specifications will tell you how much water to use and how to keep it running smoothly.
Set It on a Suitable Surface
A good indoor fountain is properly sealed to prevent direct spills, but remember that it will also produce mist and condensation. This is why you should always place it somewhere where the surrounding material won’t be harmed by an increase n the moisture level. If you have a hardwood floor, we recommend putting a sheet of Plexiglas between a free standing fountain and the floor surface. Increased moisture can be a benefit too. A fountain keeps your plants healthier and adds humidity to a dry room.
Keep it Clean
Watch for water discoloration, mineral build up and any change in the water’s flow. Cleaning it every three months is a good start. Drain and disassemble the fountain and inspect the pump for clogging, but don’t run the pump without water. Water Fountain Place offers Water Fountain Care products to make it cleaning an easy, quick process.
Keep the Water Level High and Running
For best results, you should keep your indoor fountain running continuously, using the maximum recommended water level (but don’t put any more that that in!). This keeps the pump fully submerged and prevents the wear and tear that occurs from turning the fountain on and off regularly You do have to turn it off and drain it occasionally to give it a thorough cleaning, but don’t turn it off every night, don’t drain it too often and when you refill it, keep the water level up.
Watch for Water Quality
Water quality is one of the most important factors when it comes to keeping a good looking fountain. This is particularly important if you have young children or pets. Cleaning your fountain regularly helps, but you may wish to consider an additive designed to keep your fountain’s water at its best. We recommend an enzyme-based product like the Care Free Enzymes Fountain Protector.
