Today is Earth Day! It always gives pause for thought because consumption is no longer a personal affair – it can affect the entire world. How to you choose relaxing, beautiful décor while minimizing your ecological footprint? When it comes to water fountains you have two options: Think small or think solar.
In truth, modern water fountains are already fairly environmentally friendly. Electric pumps and modern fabrication means they lose little water to leakage and provide maximum performance for the power they consume. Solar fountains and tabletop water fountains take this a step further, however, reducing grid power consumption to an absolute minimum – or in the case of solar water fountains, nothing.
A table top fountain showcases the benefits of modern pump and fabrication technology. These fountains can be just as detailed and well-designed as their larger counterparts, but not only cost less, but consume less power. The disadvantage of a tabletop water fountain is of course its size. A smaller fountain needs to be placed with a bit more care. Many models are also inappropriate as outdoor fountains. Fortunately, the same techniques that created this miniature fountains are also responsible for smaller garden fountains and outdoor wall fountains.
Solar water fountains are the ideal eco-friendly choice because they’re self contained, drawing no power from your grid. This saves you money, helps the environment and lets you place your fountain (typically an outdoor fountain, though they can be used as indoor water fountains near windows) nearly anywhere – not just in reach of an outlet. The disadvantage is of course that your solar fountain’s performance depends on sunlight conditions. The more sun, the stronger the flow.
No matter your choice, pick a water fountain that you’ll genuinely enjoy. After all, if you get rid of a fountain because it doesn’t suit you that would be wasteful, too. So the “greenest” fountain decision you can make it one you’ll be able to enjoy for the long haul.
