Fountain Care and Maintenance Reminder

We have had posts in the past about water fountain care and maintenance.  It is always nice to have a reminder when it comes to indoor and outdoor fountain care.  Below you will find a brief summary for taking care of your water fountains as well as some resources that are always available when specific water fountain questions arise.

The easiest thing to remember is how important it is to clean your water fountain!  By doing periodic fountain cleanings you will eliminate a lot of the issues that can arise in a water fountain, both indoors and out.  Cleaning your fountain will keep the pump clear of debris and build up, it will keep debris and algae out of the tubing of the unit and it will keep white scale or hard water deposits from forming.  Depending on the size of your fountain or whether it is indoors or out, cleaning may be practical every couple weeks or every couple months.  Tabletop fountains that are easy to move and empty a cleaning every couple weeks is great as it allows all of the old water to be emptied, quickly wipe the fountain clean and clean the pump, add fresh water and start it back up.  This will keep your table fountain beautiful for many years to come.  Of course, with large outdoor fountains or wall fountains this isn’t very practical and a cleaning every couple months is sufficient.  You will find much more detailed information on fountain cleaning in our tips and advice center.

Aside from cleaning, a little weekly TLC can also go along way to a fresh and beautiful fountain.  There are many fountain care products available such as No More Algae, No More White Scale and Fountain Fresh.  All of these water fountain products will prolong algae from growing and build up from forming.  Of course, even though these fountain care products are great, it still doesn’t eliminate the need for cleaning your water fountain, just prolongs it.  You can find a detailed guide of the various fountain care products at Serenityhealth.com.

Winter care for outdoor fountains is another important aspect to remember if you live somewhere that has the changing seasons.  Depending on the size of your outdoor fountain how you prepare for winter can vary.  If you have a small outdoor fountain it is probably best just to drain your fountain and bring it to a warmer place for the winter months.  Larger fountains or heavy stone fountains can stay put as long as they are emptied completely and covered.  You will want to be sure there is no water left in the fountain as the freezing and melting of the water can cause cracking.  Fountain covers work great for preparing for the freezing weather.  You will also find a detailed guide on winter care for outdoor fountains on our website.
