We all know the health benefits of stress relief, and the sheer enjoyment of relaxing after a long day. Why not build a space in your home to give yourself a mini-retreat for all five of your senses? You don’t need a lot of space, just find a quiet area in your home where you can sit comfortably and maybe dim the lights a bit. And, you don’t have to spend a lot to have your own mini-retreat at home.
You can find products to ease all of your senses that don’t take up much space or cost a lot of money. Here are a few suggestions:
Sound – Listen to a tabletop fountain for relaxing water sounds or a relaxation CD if you prefer music. It will help dampen outside sounds so you can focus all your attention to relaxation.
Sight – Light some candles to see the flickering light or gaze at an engraved stone with “relax” on it. It’s a nice way to focus your eyes on something other than the television or computer screen.
Smell – Give aromatherapy a try with some scented oils or a reed diffuser. The soothing smells can take you away from all the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Touch – Let your shoulders relax with a soothing shoulder wrap or treat yourself to a pair of soft, comfy slippers. The warmth will help you relax away the day’s troubles.
Taste – Get a cup of your favorite tea or other warm beverage to drink. Let yourself unwind and really enjoy the flavors!
